We are casting actors based in the North East of England for our regional tour of Yarns From Hyem!

Yarns From Hyem is a collection of 4 short North East plays which will tour to community and theatre venues in the region, in partnership with Gala Durham and supported by Arts Council England and The Cultural Spring.


We are casting actors to take part in a read-through, two weeks of rehearsals and two weeks of touring.


We actively encourage applications from traditionally excluded and marginalised backgrounds.

Azza - Male. Playing age 18-25. Any ethnicity

Sam - Any gender. Playing age 30-60. Middle Eastern. This character is of Yemeni heritage

Based in the North East of England - we cannot cover relocation costs

Aged 18+

Available for all dates below


Auditions: 11th April 2024 at Gala Durham

Full-team read through: 15th April 2024 at Gala Durham

Rehearsals: 13th - 28th May 2024 at Gala Durham

Tour dates: 29th May - 7th June 2024


Actors will be paid a fee of £2,425.60 based on above Equity minimum rates for the read-through date, 6 rehearsal dates within the rehearsal period and 2 performance weeks.

You will be required to include a link to a recent self tape, scene or showreel that best demonstrates your performance of a character-driven scene or monologue.


We're looking for a naturalistic performance in your own accent.

We cannot download files and won’t be able to process your application.


If you don't have a showreel or any recent scenes, you're welcome to submit a self-tape for this opportunity. If this is your first time self-taping, we have some guidance on creating a self tape HERE.


The submission deadline is

12pm Friday 5th April

Selected applicants will be invited to an in-person audition at Gala Durham on Thursday 11th April.

You will be given an individual time slot and sent sides to prepare in advance.
