NORTH EAST WRITERS
We are now accepting script submissions for Haddaway & Write!

Haddaway & Write will return in Jan-Feb 2024 in partnership with Gala Durham.
Funded by Arts Council England and Sunday for Sammy, the project will support up to 6 writers to develop short plays, with dramaturgical support from award-winning writer, Sarah Tarbit. The selected writers will take part in bespoke script development sessions. They will receive career support and have their plays professionally performed at Gala, with potential for scripts to be selected for future touring.
We are accepting submissions from North East writers at all levels of experience who will benefit from script development support and career mentoring.
Selected writers will receive £500 to take part in this opportunity.

Shortlisted writers will receive script feedback and access to a screenwriting workshop.

Applicants must be
Based in the North East of England
Aged 16+
Available on 27th January 2024
Available for two am or pm sessions 29/01/24 - 31/01/24 and 05/02/24 - 07/02/24

Script submissions must
Be 10-12 pages
Be a new, original play for stage that has not been produced
Have a maximum of 2 characters
Respond to the theme of ‘hope’ - this can be interpreted as broadly and creatively as you like!

All scripts will be reviewed anonymously so it is important that your name is not included anywhere on your script document.

NORTH EAST DIRECTORS
We are looking for two early-career theatre directors from the North East of England!
They will each direct three short plays for ‘Haddaway & Write’ as part of an exciting talent development programme.
‘Haddaway & Write’ champions talent from the region and improves access to theatre for local audiences and artists. Supported using public funding from Arts Council England and Sunday for Sammy, the project will run in partnership with Gala Durham in January - February 2024.

Aged 18+ and based in the North East of England
Confident directing professional actors
Confident communicating with early career writers
Passionate about telling North East stories with North East voices
Available for all dates below

Full-team read through: 27th Jan 2024
Rehearsal week 1: 12/02/24 - 16/02/24
Rehearsal week 2: 19/02/24 - 24/02/24

Fees
Readthrough date: £150/day + Holiday Pay
Rehearsal weeks: £545/week + Holiday Pay
Total per director: £1356.21
​
Selected applicants will be invited to a short informal zoom meeting on the 29th or 30th November
​
